Particularly destructive among the self-deluded spiritual teachers are those who teach that only they and their personal power can bring freedom, or that they are the ones best suited for the task. They would merely strengthen the chains of our bondage. No genuine teacher will imply that we need anything or anyone, since we are already free and complete. A teacher’s function is to convey this to the student, and to help him or her to see that. A teacher is at best an invaluable resource to the student, and at worst, a "false prophet", the deluded purporting to teach the deluded, the blind trying to lead the blind. |

obed, I agree. So many supposed spiritual paths, including Zen and Dzogchen, claim that primordial awareness is the sole reality and is immediately present to us, unborn, undying.
But then the paths also develop a gigantic superstructure of belief and reliance on masters, gurus, and other supposedly enlightened teachers. What ever happened to the simplicity of primordial awareness?
Like you said, it seems that the only true teacher is one who says, "You don't need me." And really means it. Lots of teachers say this, but for some reason never get around to letting go of their disciples.
P.S. Interesting Course in Consciousness you have there. I enjoyed the PowerPoint presentation. I'll probably write a blog post about your work. You offer some fresh insights (for me, at least) into the relation of quantum physics and the nature of objective/subjective reality. |

Dear Brian, Thanks for the complements but I cannot accept them. That quote comes straight out of Stanley Sobottka's work.I cannot claim to have even a fraction of his insights.Like you I really like what he says. His work represents hours of work and the fact that he releases it for free on the internet shows his heart is in the right place. Enjoy the read
